Zurkhaneh is a traditional sport still practiced in Iran, which roots can be traced back to ancient times. Unlike western gymnasiums, the athletes train in a team while standing into an octagonal pit, using wooden weights and iron chains. The practice is not focused only on body training, but also involves religious rituals and respect towards the older pahlavans, athletes with higher ranking.
